Pay on Delivery — How It Works

Newzander's POD option allows buyers to pay a security deposit upfront, with the remaining balance collected in cash or via card at delivery. This feature is available on eligible orders from verified vendors.

POD Eligibility

1.1 Vendor Eligibility

POD is only available from vendors who have been approved for the POD program. Approval is based on: order history, fulfillment rate, dispute rate, account standing, and geographic delivery capability. Vendors may apply for POD eligibility through their vendor settings.

1.2 Order Eligibility

Not all orders qualify for POD. Eligibility depends on the buyer's delivery address, order value, vendor's POD policy, and availability in the delivery zone. POD may be unavailable for international orders, high-value items, or restricted categories.

Deposit Requirements

All POD orders require a security deposit paid at the time of order placement. The deposit is calculated as follows:

POD Deposit Formula

Deposit = (Items Total × Deposit %) + Full Shipping Fee

Example: Items ₦20,000 × 20% = ₦4,000 + Shipping ₦5,000 = ₦9,000 deposit due today

The deposit percentage is set by each vendor (minimum 10%, maximum 50%). The full shipping fee is always collected upfront to protect vendors from courier costs on undelivered orders. The remaining balance is collected at delivery by the vendor or delivery agent.

Buyer Obligations for POD

Pay the full required deposit via an active payment method at order placement
Be available to receive delivery at the confirmed address during the agreed delivery window
Have the outstanding balance ready for payment upon delivery
Inspect goods at delivery before completing payment of the balance
Not refuse delivery without valid grounds under our Dispute Policy

Unjustified Delivery Refusal

Refusing delivery without raising a valid dispute will result in forfeiture of the deposit. Repeated unjustified refusals may result in loss of POD eligibility.

Vendor Obligations for POD

Confirm POD orders within the standard processing timeline
Dispatch orders promptly and provide tracking information
Ensure delivery agents are briefed on balance collection procedures
Issue confirmation receipt upon balance collection
Record delivery confirmation through the Platform immediately upon successful delivery

POD Refunds & Deposit Forfeiture

The deposit is refundable in the following circumstances only: item not dispatched within the vendor's stated processing time, item significantly not as described upon delivery inspection, or Newzander-determined valid dispute. The deposit is non-refundable if the buyer refuses delivery without valid grounds or fails to accept delivery after three attempts.
